BEDROOM MAKEOVER
Are you bored with your bedroom? Is it about time to give it a new lease of life?
Why not start by investing in pretty, co-ordinating linens. Choose delicate pastels to create an intimate, romantic atmosphere. Why not consider voile curtains round the bed or at the window to diffuse the light. Cocoon yourself away from the rigours of everyday life with layers of soft natural fabrics in soothing neutral tones. Remember that using too many colours in one room unsettles the eye and will not create that sanctuary you are trying to achieve.
Feng Shui experts say your bedroom should be a place to rest and sleep, not a junk room or entertainment centre. Tidy away clothes and ban work and hobby related items, such as computers and files. Try to keep the room a stress-free zone. Make a pact not to argue there, or write letters, pay bills, or chat on the phone. If you have sufficient space, invest in a soft, deep armchair and foot stool, with side table and lamp to create that cosy corner for reading or simply relaxing. Update your soft, squashy cushions by trimming them with glittery beading in complementary colours and pile them onto the bed for a feeling of luxury.
A fresh coat of paint always works wonders. Instead of the more traditional colours why not experiment with warm taupes teamed with soft truffle and chocolate tones mixed with cream? Remember that great colour schemes often emerge from mistakes so don’t be afraid to experiment with colour – the walls can always be painted over!
Don‘t forget to include mirrors to catch and reflect any light entering the bedroom. Try recycling an old one or customizing a cheap, new one.
And, finally, is your bed comfy? It’s difficult to enjoy deep, restful sleep on a bed that too soft, too hard, too small, or just plain old! If you are the victim of restless nights, consider investing in a new bed and then, Immerse yourself in the fragrance of lavender oil which will encourage relaxation and, hopefully, sleep.
