DECORATIVE DETAILING

Would you like to put a little sparkle into your décor?  The addition of a few decorative details to your drapery and upholstery, or some quick paint makeovers can add a whole new look to your home.

·                     Give your curtains an extra kick with the addition of tie backs trimmed with a border of ribbon in a contrasting colour, or add a fringe for pure whimsy.

·                     Introduce a delicious, new colour into your bedroom with the addition of myriads of tiny bows to the edge of your draperies.

·                     Add an engaging look to sheer drapes with the application of shiny ribbons, sewing them only half way down, allowing the ends to float lazily in the breeze.

·                     For a layered “French chic” look, sew different length fabric pieces together, using complementary colours or designs. Make a rod pocket at the top and hang on a slim, wrought iron pole.

·                     To effect a whole new look to your dining room, dress up the chairs with smart new slip covers.  Add some detail to the back by sewing on large buttons, covered in a bright, distinctive fabric, and connected with shiny cording.

·                     Box pleats in a contrasting colour or pattern to the main fabric can look stunning when used on your drapery.  Continue the theme by incorporating the same box-pleat idea on your upholstery.

·                     Disguise an old, scratched table with a skirted look.  Use large, corded edging and allow the fabric to “puddle” on the floor for sheer elegance.

An all-white décor can be clean and crisp but if you would like to make some subtle changes you may wish to consider the following:

·                     Add tones of creams and pinks for a warm, cosy look.

·                     In your bathroom use the soft tones of seashells as your inspiration for a new colour scheme.  Or, for instant “his’ and “hers” sophistication, introduce some sharp contrast with accessories in deep, chocolate brown.

·                     In a gleaming white master bathroom add strategically placed mirrors to reflect any outdoor views.  To create an atmosphere of luxury place a pile of fluffy, white towels on the vanity top and place white scented candles around the bath.  Add just a splash of colour with the bowl of yellow flowers.

·                     Transform heavy woodwork in your living room or hallway by painting mouldings and mantels in sparkling white, adding bright accessories for contrast.
